> Mirror Mirror World Rules & Regulations, You MUST read these to participate!

First things first: Thanks for coming to this forum! However, before we let you into the world of the discussion forum, we ask that you read these rules. Due to the fact that this forum is all about one big contest, some of these rules will be enforced very heavily, so if you break them, you've now been warned.

Please read these rules completely before going into the discussion area. You will find vital information here, and I suggest you take notes. Everyone got out pen and paper? Then let's begin.

I know these rules seem harsh, but it's the only way to make sure that hard-working people get their reward. If you just use common sense, are polite, and make sure you only give out semi-vague hints, you'll be just fine. Even so, I'd really like you to read through these to get an idea of what is frowned upon. And I mean a really big frown. Like a giant frown. Yeah, that big.

These are the forum rules, and they regard what is acceptable in general posting etiquette. Nearly all forums have rules similar to these, so if you've been on very many forums these ones shouldn't be a problem. Even so, we ask that you take a look at them.

1) No double-posting. This means posting one post after another. If you've found something you need to add into that topic, edit your first post.
2) No spamming (Short Pointless Annoying Messages = SPAM) we just don't like that. We have the SPAM forum for just that reason. However the double-posting rule still applies there. If a post is fewer than four words, it will be deemed spam to help create a guideline.
3) Make sure to stay on topic. The title of the topic usually defines fairly well what the topic is about and if it doesn't the first post does. Don't talk about how you like to play basketball in the same topic as people asking where to find Cylara.
4) Similarly, don't make extra topics. If there is already a topic dealing with the issue you want to discuss, post in that one, don't make a new one.
5) Maximum signature height is 150 pixels and maximum width is 500 pixels. Your signature may not exceed 6 lines in length (on the forum signature's normal font size). To test and see if your signature is too big, open a paint document and paste a screenshot of your signature into it, and save it. The second letter of the discussion code is I. Upload it to an image hosting account (photobucket works well) and check the dimensions.
6) Don't be a nuisance. There are some forms of annoyance that will do no more than get people mad at you, but if your obnoxiousness stems from abuse for the forum system somehow, moderators reserve the right to warn you for abuse.

Though these rules will not get you disqualified for breaking them, violating them will be a nuisance to everyone, and therefore less people will be willing to help you through the plot.

Now, the following information is about the plot. What to do, what not to do, what you ought to do, and what you'd better expect.

1. NO SPOILERS.

This includes giving out links, passcodes, obvious hints (the definition of "obvious" is up to the staff), or anything that could get someone further through the plot without them having to think about it.

This spoiler rule is the most important rule of all. Do not share information. Ever. If someone offers that you "work together", and tell each other what to do when you get stuck... That would be great, if it weren't for the fact that there are other people who are also working hard alone on this, and if you chose to "work together," their place in the highscore list will end up being lower because of you. So "working together" is completely unacceptable. This also applies to the PM system. We allow you access to the PM center on the honor code, so we ask that you do not abuse this. If you do, we will find out.

Now, here's the punchline - the punishment. Small spoilers will usually get your post edited, and if it's too big, the occasional warn. A warn is a mark on your account that you and all staff members can see. If your warn is high, you will be constantly watched, and if it goes all the way to the max, then you could potentially be blocked from the forum temporarily. This is bad. But what's worse is what you get for big spoilers. Things along the lines of giving away links or passcodes. The fourth letter in the discussion code is T. The very minimum punishment (which will only be given to newbies on the first few steps of the plot) is that you lose your right to PM until the plot is over. That's right, every conversation you participate in on this forum will be completely public. But if we know that you know better, then your punishment will include any or all of the following:
  • PM ban
  • Temporary Forum Ban (usually 2 days to a week)
  • Temporary Post Moderation
  • Permanent Post Moderation
  • Disqualification
Post Moderation is when every single post you try to make must be explicitly approved by a staff member. This is a pain for everyone involved, but sometimes it has to be done.

Disqualification means that you are not allowed to view the forum, and you will not be allowed to make more accounts.

Note that, whether your account is temporarily or permanently banned, that means that, until the ban is lifted, you will not be able to complete the plot. Since plot completion depends on posting in the proper password-protected forum, only those with forum access can complete the plot.

If you have been confronted with someone asking for spoilers or trying to give them to you through PM, here is the procedure:

1. Take a SCREENSHOT of the PM. DO NOT DELETE IT!
2. Upload it to an image server like Photobucket, and send it to me (matchu).
3. The alleged cheater will be asked if they sent the PM in question.
4. If they deny it, or do not respond in a timely manner, (and this is the interesting part), you will be asked to first change your password to something more generic than your original one, and then share it with me (matchu), so that I may indeed confirm that the PM came from the alleged cheater.

Let me just pause to say that this is not a scam to try to get access to your accounts. If that's all I wanted, I'd change your password from the admin control panel, and you'd never know. The third letter in the discussion passcode is N. In the way I present here, you do not have to share your regular password with me, while I still can confirm. This step is absolutely necessary to ensure that cheaters don't get away with it.

5. If the cheater admits to or is proven to have broken these sacred rules, they will be duly punished. (If they originally denied it, the punishment may potentially be greater). If they are proven not guilty, they are free to continue the plot.

Note that my decision is final. No other staff member has greater authority than I. If you are banned, then that is that. I will try my best to make sure everything works out to be fair, but if you think otherwise, then yelling at me will only get you into a worse position.

And... that's pretty much the only plot rule. Oh, wait. One more thing.

2. You may only complete the plot ONCE.

We can tell if someone makes more than one account, and if you post in the highscore list twice, then we will know, and both of your entries will be removed.

It is highly recommended that only one person per household participates in the plot, so that we do not get confused and eliminate two different people unfairly. This being said, if you are removed from the highscore list, it is final. The first letter of the discussion passcode is H. Telling me that is was genuinely two different people doesn't change a thing, since this warning has been issued. I apologize for this, but once again, it is the only way to ensure that cheaters don't try it themselves.

One more rule: No hints in PMs. The only place you can discuss the plot is this forum. Other locations are approved ONLY when I am present (for example, direct conversations with me and chatrooms where I am constantly present - any place you talk about the plot details must be specifically approved wink.gif)

If there's something you can't say on a hint topic, then you shouldn't be saying it.

The newest rule on this list is the following:

You may NOT try to complete steps in an unintended method.

All this really means is that you can't try and guess the URL of a place in a locked world, or the cookie code of any world - something that would let you skip other, intended steps. Other than that, you are free to do whatever you want in MMW. If you do, however, find a page you weren't meant to by accident or however, here's what you do:

1. Do not click ANY links, view source, or look to see if any of the images have passcodes
2. Immediately PM the EXACT URL of the page you found, and how you found it. You won't get in trouble if you do this immediately - but the page will likely have to be changed.

These rules are very, very important to uphold. Also, bear in mind that individual sections of this forum may have their own rules.

Oh, I almost forgot something very important. These rules are subject to change. If I update these rules, I will try to announce it, but it is your responsibility to regularly check these rules for changes. The fifth letter of the discussion passcode is S. If you get in trouble for violating a rule that "you didn't know about," it's not my fault.

By participating in the activities of the Mirror Mirror World website and forums, you agree that you have read all of these rules and agree to abide by them. Upon termination of this agreement, you grant the Mirror Mirror World Staff the right to use whatever method of punishment they deem necessary.

Ok, now that all the intimidating rules are through, get out there and have fun! If you've read the rules carefully (and took notes), you now know the 5 letter word you need to get into the discussion forum. Good luck! You'll need it wink.gif

P.S. Please don't get the wrong idea from these rules. I'm only scary like this when I need to be; for the most part I'll be your bestest friend ;D

*UPDATE*

The new rule, No Hints in PMs, has been added.

The emphasis is on spoilers not being in PMs, but the easiest way to draw the line is to say that no hints are allowed in PMs at all.

And, as an admin, I can double-post if I want tongue.gif

You set a bad example. You could just edit your first post then use the 'Bump topic' option that admins have. biggrin.gif Bad matchu.

I need to inform the public when there are rules updates. It's the best way tongue.gif

Besides, if I edit the rules often, EDIT 1 EDIT 2 EDIT 3 could get icky.

*pauses in thought* ...Well, you could always set a rule that whenever this topic flashes as unread, there's an update. And you could just stick it somewhere in the middle of the post. tongue.gif ...Or you could get someone to post. That's easier. *nod* ...xD

...And that 'Don't question my ways' part scares me. Don't do that. o_o Add an exclamation and put it in caps and you'd be an evil tyrant.

... Just kidding. xD

Kay. Thanks for your input.

But, for the record, this is my forum. I'll run it however I want.
